Olde Cherry Tree, Little Oakley

Sitting on a Domesday site on the pretty B1414 Clacton to Harwich road this village local once fronted a large cherry orchard and is very much part of the history of the area as well as a vital part of the modern-day community.

It has a fairly turbulent recent history with a golden era in the ownership of famous local landlord Steve Chandler followed by a period of great uncertainty in the hands of two pub companies. After a vigorous local campaign it was saved from closure by local heroine Abi Goodwin who stepped in to keep the pub open and its future was recently secured when it was purchased by Steve Munn who owns 2 other real ale pubs in the Tendring area.

Up to 5 real ales are available including local brews from Harwich Town Brewery and one of the best pints of Adnams Bitter in the area. Each week 1 real ale is offered at £2 per pint.

The food is also enjoying a growing reputation locally and the pub has been voted Tendring CAMRA's Pub of the Year 2008.
