6th Harwich & Dovercourt Bay Winter Ale Festival 2007
At the Kingsway Hall, Dovercourt
From Thursday 6th to Saturday 8th December, 11.00 to 23.00 each day
40+ real ales, cider and bottled continental beers
Time, once again, to welcome locals and travellers alike to the Kingsway Hall in Dovercourt Town Centre where the Tendring Branch of CAMRA have assembled an eclectic range of real ale to surprise, comfort, challenge and delight!
This year we are commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Marine Broadcasting Offences Act which attempted to end the reign of the pirate radio stations operating off the coast near Harwich. The attempts by the establishment to close down these popular stations is fondly remembered by the people of Harwich along with the supply operation, which rekindled memories of smuggling in the old seaport, and the rescue of 5 men and a canary from the Mi Amigo by the Harwich lifeboat in 1979!
As usual the emphasis of the beer selection is on dark and seasonal brews but we like to bring a bit of everything into the mix so you'll find some lovely golden brews on offer as well as something a bit fruity!
So - we revisit old friends from not so far away such as the now classic Redwatch Blueberry Ale from Cambridge Moonshine and the absolutely superb Good King Henry from Old Chimneys but we also celebrate the return of brewing to the Harwich area with the full range of beers from Harwich Town Brewery - including a beer brewed specially for the festival.
The festival runs from Thursday 6th to Saturday 8th December with live music on the Friday and Saturday nights. The festival is open each day from 11am to 11pm and entrance is £2 on the Friday and Saturday evenings, £1 at all other times but FREE to card carrying CAMRA members. A glass deposit of £2.50 is required for the commemorative tankards which can be reclaimed on the door when you leave or we keep the deposit and you keep the glass!
